The "core" blue sea behind the driverless

LeTV and Evergrande cooperated to build unmanned vehicles in less than a year and came to an end. Nowadays, the two sides are in court and cause the industry to be in turmoil. Whether it was the LeTV-making car of the year or the FF-making car of today, most of us who eat melons are watching the excitement. Today, let’s see the huge "core" market behind the driverless car together.

Today, intelligent elements, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance) have become a major gimmick in new car sales. No point of intelligent function, I am embarrassed to say that it is a new car. In the future, cars are not just a means of transportation, but more of a place for people to entertain, work and live. The more intelligent the car, the more car electronics it needs, and these are some of the electronic systems necessary for the driverless cars from the network in the table below.

Automobile intelligence is based on electric vehicles. Compared with traditional cars, new energy vehicles have higher requirements on the degree of electronicization. The cost of electronic devices in traditional high-class cars is about 25%, and in new energy vehicles, it is 45% to 65%.

Automotive electronics is mainly composed of semiconductor devices. The chip is a general term for semiconductor component products. It is the carrier of integrated circuits and is divided by wafers. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the average number of chips in traditional fuel vehicles in 2017 was about 685, while foreign brands accounted for more than 200 chips than Chinese brands. In 2017, the average number of new energy electric vehicles is about 831, and the number of domestic auto brands and foreign auto brands is basically the same. Because new energy electric vehicles are usually added with more electronic control units for regional networks, drive systems, camera sensing systems and ADAS systems, the number of chips in future cars will increase. It is expected that by 2022, the average number of chips in a new energy smart cars will reach 1,500 or so. There is no doubt that the number of chips needed to reach the highest level of driverless cars in the future will be even greater.

It is reported that the L4/L5 level driverless test vehicle needs to have at least 10,000 US dollars or more than 70,000 yuan of semiconductor value, plus the semiconductor value required by artificial intelligence software, the semiconductor content of future driverless cars will exceed 5000 US dollars or 35,000 yuan. Nowadays, the semiconductor content of ordinary cars is about 500 US dollars or 3,500 yuan, so the driverless cars in the next 30 years will greatly contribute to the growth of the global and Chinese semiconductors.

The National Development and Reform Commission put forward in the "Smart Vehicle Innovation Development Strategy" (draft for comment) that China will take the lead in building a smart car’s powerful country in 2035. Integrated circuits are the most important and valuable components in smart cars, and will surely welcome the development of "core" as the automotive industry.
